Acupuncture Improves Sperm Motility and Morphology

A study from the Archives of Andrology looked at the effect of acupuncture on sperm quality of males who were suffering from subfertility due to sperm impairment. Samples from 16 subfertile men were analyzed 1 month before and after acupuncture treatment which consisted of acupuncture twice a week for 5 weeks. The control group consisted of samples from 16 subfertile men who received no treatment. After completion of all acupuncture, the fertility index improved significantly along with total functional sperm fraction, percentage of viability, total motility and the integrity of the axonema. The conclusion was that patients who exhibit a low fertility potential due to reduced sperm activity may benefit from acupuncture treatment. [1]
