Poor Sperm Morphology

Morphology is simply the concern of the shape of the sperm and is another indicator of male fertility. Normal sperm have a smooth, oval head shape and have no abnormalities of the mid-piece or tail. WHO guidelines indicate that normal sperm morphology is present if there is 30% normal morphology. Other guidelines (Kruger method) will indicate that normal sperm morphology is present with 14% normal morphology. Many studies exist which have tested the effects of acupuncture and its ability to positively affect sperm morphology. Most notably in the 2005 Journal of Fertility and Sterility which concluded that when acupuncture is performed two times per week for 5 weeks, significant morphological changes in sperm are observed.
