Performing a sperm count provides a reasonable indication as to how fertile a man may be. Under current World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, sperm counts are considered normal if there are more than 20 million sperm per ml (2). Multiple research studies have indicated that acupuncture can increase the numbers of those who suffer from below normal sperm counts. Acupuncture has been shown to increase vasodilation to the testes and epididymus as well as exert a regulatory effect on the nervous system which explains its therapeutic effects.
